Eagle Eye News

With last week’s sudden turn of events, we are thankful for the Lord’s favor in providing a temporary solution for our secondary students. We were given approval for all DCS students to be together at our main campus for the remainder of the school year. As always, we trust in the Lord’s provision for and his sovereignty over us and this situation as we continue to take steps forward.

Please make sure you are up to speed on all the current announcements and activities here at DCS through this week’s Eagle Eye and by reading the following information.

Pickup times will remain at 3:00 PM for all Pre-K through 6th grade students and 3:15 PM for all 7th – 12th grade secondary students. If you are arriving early for a secondary student pickup, you will need to pull into an available parking space in order to keep the pickup line for elementary students moving quickly and smoothly.

We are already seeing a fair amount of illness this school year.  Feel free to email or call Jessi Veras in the school office to talk through any medical questions. As a reminder, sick student protocol is as follows:

  • Fever (temp 100.4F and above) – Must be 24 hours fever free, without medication, to be able to return to class

  • Vomiting/Diarrhea – Must be 48 hours past the last episode to be able to return to school

Notification for absences from school – Please email dcs@damascuscc.org as well as your student’s teacher to let us know of any school absence.

When arriving late to school - All elementary students need to be checked in by an adult to the school office.  Once they are checked in, an office staff member will take the student(s) to their classroom. If your student is in one of the outside pods, please do not take them directly to the classroom.  All late arrivals need to be checked in through the school office.

When picking up early from school - please call the office once you have arrived on campus to let us know you are here, who you are picking up, and where you are parked (503-658-4100).  Office staff will then bring your student(s) to the car.  Please allow extra time for us to get your student(s), as we do not pull students from class until you have arrived on campus. This allows the student to remain in class for the maximum time, without unnecessary waiting time in the office.

The uptick in illness has not just affected us at DCS! One of our scheduled Lifetouch photographers last week was sick and not able to be there for picture day. As a result, we will be rescheduling with Lifetouch for our secondary students to have their pictures taken. More details on that rescheduled date will be forthcoming.

Ordering opened last week for our new hot lunch program, with our first hot lunch delivery date coming up next week on Monday, September 23rd. If you have not done so already, be sure to create your family account, add student profiles and start ordering! Secondary parents and students, we are working through elective adjustments due to the change in location for our secondary students. At least one elective selection will change completely, and a few other others will have adjustments to them.  We will be extending the add/drop period as we work through these changes. Students can still submit an Add/Drop Form to Heidi Hale in the school office to request a change to their schedule. This form can be found on our website under the resources and links page, or students can pick up a copy in the school office.
